How you make a difference

The Medical Records Manager ensures the confidentiality, security, and accuracy of medical records while maintaining compliance with state and federal guidelines. This role involves managing prompt retrieval of clinical and statistical information, overseeing transcription services, and facilitating utilization reviews for third-party payers. As the facility’s HIPAA Security Officer, the Medical Records Manager plays a key role in safeguarding the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information systems, while also overseeing the release of information processes. Key Responsibilities

  1. Confidentiality and Compliance: Ensures confidentiality of medical records and completes forms for release of information in accordance with HIPAA and facility policies.
  2. Record Management: Maintains and updates systems tracking diagnoses, treatment, admissions, discharges, and transfers while establishing and reviewing procedures for accurate record completion.
  3. Accreditation and Licensure: Completes monthly quantitative reviews to meet guidelines, accreditation, and licensure requirements.
  4. Medical Record Requests: Responds timely to authorized medical record requests, maintaining accurate documentation of disclosures.
  5. Audit and Team Support: Facilitates access to medical records for internal staff, auditors, or reviewers and provides feedback on documentation deficiencies to the multidisciplinary team.



Qualifications & Requirements

Education:

  • Required: Bachelor’s degree in information management/medical records or related field.

Experience:

  • Preferred: Three (3) years leadership experience in information management with direct experience in a health care facility.
  • Preferred: One (1) year experience ICD-10-CM coding, in healthcare management/medical records or clerical field.

Certifications:

  • Required: Certification accreditation as a registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), as determined by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).
