How you make a difference

The Fire and Safety Manager position involves coordinating and managing all aspects of loss prevention within a facility. This advanced safety role requires a motivated individual with a proven track record in loss prevention and may involve attending continuing education courses. Corporate Risk Management and other Fire Safety Officers provide professional guidance to the Fire and Safety Manager. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Manages the occupational safety and health program for the entire facility, including regular facility inspections and hazard identification. 
  • Establishes and implements effective emergency preparedness plans and conducts scheduled fire drills. 
  • Investigates accidents and determines root cause, while providing regular safety training to new hires and conducting monthly safety committee meetings. 
  • Ensures safe practices for chemical handling, sanitation and waste removal activities, as well as monitoring the safe workplace activities of outside contractors. 
  • Responsible for budgeting input and providing weekly and monthly activity reports to the Facility Administrator. 

Qualifications & Requirements

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.  Bachelor's degree in the behavioral sciences or related field highly desirable.

Experience

  • Five (5) years of experience in professional safety and loss control capacity preferred.
  • Proven leadership experience.  Must be able to work with employees at all levels within the facility.  Excellent written and verbal communication skills.  Must have the ability and desire to work in a cooperative manner and to make management decisions.  Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.
