How you make a difference

As a Recreation Therapist at the NeuroBehavioral Hospital, you will develop, organize, and implement therapeutic recreation groups and activities that address the needs of patients. Your primary goal will be to restore and maintain optimal levels of physical and psychosocial functioning in patients. Additionally, you will actively participate in treatment planning and implement activity services for the inpatient population, defining and implementing treatment goals as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team and providing continuous patient care, observation, interaction, and role modeling under the direction of the Director of Clinical Services. 



Key Responsibilities

  • Provide prescribed and individualized recreation services to patients, assessing and developing programs to access social, cognitive, physical, and emotional functioning. 
  • Plan and conduct daily recreation and recovery groups, manage group process/dynamics, and maintain a therapeutic relationship with patients while implementing individualized activity plans and MHT mentoring. 
  • Assess and reassess patients' strengths and needs, complete therapeutic activities assessments, and perform timely, complete, accurate, and legible documentation of services provided, consistent with professional standards and facility procedures. 
  • Maintain a safe, clean therapeutic environment, be knowledgeable about care and treatment needs of patients of different ages, and provide individualized care and treatment that is consistent with/sensitive to the age and life span developmental needs of each patient. 
  • Complete yearly training, be sensitive to cultural diversity issues, and consider the culture of the patients when providing care and treatment. 



Qualifications & Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in therapeutic recreation or recreation with an option in therapeutic recreation is preferred.

Experience

  • Experience working with adults within a psychiatric environment preferred.

Licenses/Certifications

  • Current CTRS certification, registration, or licensure in accordance with state and/or national board standards of specific field or allied health preferred.
