How you make a difference

The Custody Technician is responsible for operating and monitoring a computerized security and surveillance system in a facility. They must be able to identify and respond to security breaches, maintain communication with staff, and document all incidents accurately. The role requires excellent attention to detail and the ability to remain calm under pressure. 



Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and operate an electronic computerized security and surveillance system, taking actions to correct security breaches and equipment failures by directing security forces, advising supervisors, or contacting local law enforcement and fire departments. 
  • Perform various functions such as unlocking or locking electronic doors, placing devices in an access or secure mode, and maintaining equipment inventory and checks. 
  • Maintain system logs by inserting pertinent remarks in reference to events as they occur, and obtain necessary information from the system to determine the status of security, mechanical equipment or the system itself. 
  • Perform operator maintenance on the system, initiate alarm summaries and trend reporting, and take necessary action to correct the situation or obtain the services of maintenance personnel in the event of system failure. 
  • Ensure proper functioning of the system and perform all duties in accordance with established procedures. 



Qualifications & Requirements

Education  

  • A high school diploma or its equivalent. 

 

Experience  

  • One (1) year of experience in Law Enforcement and/or security work, the operation of computer equipment, and/or the use of automated security or surveillance systems
