We offer ongoing training and development opportunities for licensed and unlicensed healthcare team members, and have best in class clinical resources for training, education, and point of care support.

How you make a difference

The Charge Nurse (LVN) is an advanced practical nurse who collaborates with healthcare leaders and physicians to plan, direct, and evaluate patient care systematically. Utilizing expert clinical knowledge, the Charge Nurse applies data collection and assessment in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to provide continuous therapeutic care. Additionally, the Charge Nurse communicates regularly to establish goals and strategies, maintaining expert clinical knowledge while serving as a role model and clinical resource for nursing personnel and contributing to the professional development of the healthcare team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Initiate and facilitate collaboration with medical staff, clinical teams, Nursing, and Program Leadership to positively impact care outcomes and solve complex multidisciplinary problems, including effective communication with referring facilities and emergency medical services.
  • Coordinate patient admissions, transfers, and discharges by working with other Charge Nurses, ensuring equitable workload distribution among team members through effective delegation and supervision based on their skills and abilities.
  • Ensure adherence to infection control policies, providing guidance and support to staff, while also coordinating the reception and delivery of the team's shift report.
  • Support and enhance patient responsibility and self-determination in decision-making, involving patients and families in identifying learning needs for self-care upon discharge. Act as a leader through participation in quality assurance structures and consistently communicate positively and professionally with staff, patients, and visitors.
  • Participate in department and facility performance improvement activities, implement actions prescribed by the Director of Nursing (DON) to correct deviations from standards of documentation and nursing care, and maintain appropriate boundaries with patients in a non-clinical setting.
