How you make a difference

The Residential Treatment Assistant (South Carolina Sexually Violent Predators, SCSVP) oversees day-to-day activities in the housing units of a secure treatment facility, serving as the first line of contact and providing overall care and safety for residents. They monitor resident behavior, mental status, and progress, ensuring compliance with program rules and regulations. They also address any issues that arise and may assist with resident transport to medical appointments or court hearings, contributing to the effective operation of the facility and the well-being of its residents.



Key Responsibilities

  • Ensures overall safety of living units and day rooms through continual observation of residents' behavior, utilizing de-escalation techniques when necessary.
  • Documents behavior and activities in appropriate logs, reports, or records.
  • Attends resident Integrated Care Plan meetings, reports and assesses treatment progress, and collaborates with clinical team for future treatment goals.
  • Monitors resident compliance with rules and regulations, reports violations, and conducts routine safety checks and accurate resident counts.
  • Provides 1:1 supervision of residents in crisis, participates in Residential Therapeutic Community Meetings, and assists Clinical Staff with therapeutic activities on the housing units.



Qualifications & Requirements

Education

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent required
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • Studies in healthcare, mental health or human services a plus

Experience

  • Direct care experience in a mental health or forensic mental facility, security residence or correctional facility preferred.
  • Healthcare, mental health or human services experience a plus.

Licenses/Certifications

  • Healthcare, mental health or human services license or certification a plus.
