Hampstead Hospital & Residential Treatment Facility (HHRTF) is an acute inpatient psychiatric hospital and a residential treatment program that treats children, adolescents, and young adults.  HHRTF is located in a beautiful setting in southern New Hampshire that provides plenty of outdoor areas to play, walk, and promote well-being. Children deserve to have healthy and happy childhoods so that they can grow into wholesome and happy adults. Our devoted team is here to provide these children, adolescents, and young adults with the encouragement and positive relationships to build a brighter tomorrow.



How you make a difference

The Music Counselor at Hampstead Hospital Residential Treatment Facility (HHRTF) establishes a therapeutic relationship with assigned patients and facilitates the maintenance of the therapeutic environment in the psychiatric unit. The Counselor also provides basic patient care services and maintains a clean and orderly work environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain a therapeutic relationship with patients while participating in the development and update of treatment programs. 
  • Provide therapeutic and activity groups for patients and assist them with routine activities of daily living, while conducting enhanced monitoring for patient safety. 
  • Maintain knowledge of the field of psychiatric care, and communicate effectively with nursing staff, physicians, and outside referral agencies. 
  • Perform medical record and other documentation in accordance with Joint Commission, State Licensing, and Medicare standards while promoting patient safety and reporting medical errors and significant events to the nurse in charge. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned while maintaining an orderly work environment. 



Qualifications & Requirements

Education

  • Associate/Bachelor’s degree in psychology or a related field, or relevant mental health experience in lieu of a college degree.

Experience

  • Previous experience within a psychiatric setting is preferred.
  • Experience with music therapy

Licenses/Certifications

  • CPR Certification (within 3 months of hire)
  • CPI Certification (within 3 months of hire)

Compliance

  • Corporate Compliance (within 2 months of hire)
  • Aligned with NH’s System of Care, supporting services that are: family-driven, youth-guided, community-oriented, trauma-informed, and culturally and linguistically competent.
